Abel Tasman Activities

Abel Tasman Activities

Abel Tasman activities take advantage of the unique natural landscapes and wildlife. This beautiful, remote stretch of coastline is the perfect destination for adventurers and those looking for a wilderness retreat.

Most of the activities in this region centre around walking, kayaking, and cruising. In addition, you may wish to simply relax and enjoy the beautiful beaches and bays.

Abel Tasman Walk Options

The Abel Tasman Coast Track, one of New Zealand’s famous Great Walks, runs the length of the Abel Tasman coastline. You have many options for walking a stretch of this beautiful trail:

  • Day walks
  • Multi-day walks
  • Kayak and walk combinations

With daily boats running between many points along the coast track, you therefore have great flexibility in your plans.

The most popular option is the Abel Tasman Cruise & Walk Open Day Pass. We include this in many South Island holiday packages. For example:

This pass gives you a chance to sample different sections of the track, with multiple boat trips per day offering transport between segments.

If you want to spend more time walking, choose a multi-day hike to experience the full Abel Tasman Coast Track. Enjoy lodge accomodation, cooked meals, and luggage transfers. In addition, you have the option to switch up your hiking with kayaking.

Kayak the Abel Tasman

Another popular activity in Abel Tasman National Park is kayaking. Explore the coastline, visiting tranquil bays and pristine beaches, and see abundant wildlife. For example, many kayak tours visit a seal colony just off the coast.
